Getting Help with Special Needs and EHC Plans at Maple Hayes

An informative day to help parents of children with dyslexia is being held at Maple Hayes School in Lichfield to help pupils get the help they need.

The event, which is being held in conjunction with the specialist dyslexia school and HCB Solicitors, will be a chance for parents to find out about how they get Special Educational Needs (SEN) provision for their children and help them along the Education Health and Care (EHC) plan process.

Taking place on Saturday, March 9 between 11.30am and 3pm at the school, based on Abnalls Lane in Lichfield, tickets will need to be pre-booked.

The workshop will be most useful to parents of children at Primary Schools who are having difficulty in attaining appropriate provision for their children’s special educational needs.

Maple Hayes Co-Principal, Dr Daryl Brown said: “It is so important for parents of children with learning difficulties to know their legal rights. We understand that the SEN system is extremely complex and confusing. These solicitors will help worried or confused parents navigate through the process.”

The HCB Education Team have years of experience representing parents of SEN children and have assisted in securing over 1,000 places at independent specialist schools through special educational needs tribunals. 

Maple Hayes is a specialist school for children aged 7 to 17 with Specific Learning Difficulties/Dyslexia and is approved under Section 41 of the 2014 Children & Families Act as an independent special school regulated by the Education Funding Agency to receive funding by Local Authorities under their ‘local offer’ for provision and for transport to the school.

Almost all pupils have statements or EHC plans and are placed by 16 Midlands Local Authorities but a few are placed privately by their parents. Most pupils start in Years 5, 6 or 7.
