Attendance

Attendance at Maple Hayes Hall School

At Maple Hayes Hall School, we believe that excellent attendance is essential for our pupils to reach their full potential. As a special school focused on supporting children with specific learning difficulties, we are committed to creating a nurturing environment where every pupil feels welcomed, respected, and empowered to succeed.

Our Attendance Expectations

We expect all our pupils to strive for 100% attendance, arriving at school on time and ready to learn. We understand that there may be unavoidable absences due to illness or other extenuating circumstances, but we work closely with families to minimise disruptions to a pupil's education. Our school day begins at 8:55 am, and we ask that all pupils are present and ready to start their lessons promptly. Lateness not only impacts the individual pupil's learning but can also disrupt the entire class. We monitor attendance and punctuality closely and will work with parents and carers to address any concerns.

Supporting Excellent Attendance

We recognise that our pupils may face unique challenges that can impact their attendance, and we are dedicated to providing the necessary support to help them overcome these obstacles. Our staff work closely with families to understand the individual needs of each child and develop tailored strategies to encourage regular attendance. Some of the ways we support excellent attendance include:

  • Regular communication with parents and carers to discuss any attendance concerns

  • Providing access to our on-site pastoral team, who can offer counselling and guidance

  • Collaborating with external agencies, such as the local authority's attendance team, to ensure comprehensive support

  • Celebrating and rewarding excellent attendance through our Merit Award system and special recognition in assemblies

Absence Reporting

If your child is unable to attend school due to illness or another valid reason, we ask that you contact the school office as soon as possible, preferably before 8:45 am on the day of the absence. This helps us to accurately record the absence and ensure the safety and wellbeing of all our pupils. When your child returns to school, please provide a written explanation for the absence, which can be submitted to the school office.

We understand that there may be sensitive or personal reasons for an absence, and we will treat all information with the utmost confidentiality.

Promoting a Culture of Attendance

At Maple Hayes Hall School, we believe that promoting a culture of attendance is crucial for our pupils' success. We work tirelessly to create an environment where children feel valued, supported, and motivated to attend school regularly. By working in partnership with our families, we can ensure that every pupil has the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential.

If you have any questions or concerns about attendance, please do not hesitate to contact the school office, and we will be happy to assist you.
