Rights Respecting School
We are excited to be on our journey towards becoming a UNICEF Rights Respecting School. With Mr Taylor and Miss Churchill leading the way, the school is aiming for Bronze status, which involves embracing the principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and weaving them into daily school life.
Rights Respecting Schools Award
The Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA) by UNICEF UK encourages schools to make children's rights a central part of their culture. At Maple Hayes, this means ensuring that every pupil learns about their rights and understands what it means to respect the rights of others. It’s not just about learning; it’s about creating a positive atmosphere where everyone feels safe, valued, and involved.
How are we going to achieve it?
As Maple Hayes works towards the Bronze Award, staff and pupils will engage in activities and discussions that help bring the UNCRC to life, whether during lessons, assemblies, or through everyday interactions. This approach is about more than ticking boxes—it’s about fostering a strong sense of community and encouraging pupils to be confident, active members of the school. By learning about their rights and responsibilities, students can help make the school an even better place to learn and grow.
Achieving Bronze is just the beginning, and Maple Hayes is looking forward to the benefits this journey will bring, from better relationships and wellbeing to improved participation and a stronger school community.
