Prize Giving Day Success at Maple Hayes Hall Dyslexia School

Dozens of accolades were given out at the first awards ceremony being held at Maple Hayes Hall Dyslexia School for three years.

The Prize Giving Day, which is usually a staple in the schools calendar, had previously been cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which made this years’ bigger and better than ever before.

Pupils from all year groups received an array of awards, cups and trophies in everything from sports (which was especially poignant as this is the first year Maple Hayes has joined the English Schools Athletics Association), and awards were given in everything from horse riding, cross country running, swimming and football, gymnastics and best sportsperson.

On the academic side of the school, awards were given out including numeracy ,maths, IT, science and history.

Also awarded to pupils was the chairman’s cup for social accomplishment, the Pursglove Shield for Endeavour, Lightbown Cup for Progress in Literacy, Ben Green Junior Cup for Academic Progress and the much coveted Principal’s Cup.

The day was also a chance for parents to come along and see the significant progress the pupils had made throughout the year, alongside a chance for everyone to with the leaving Year 11s all the best for the future and continued success.

Prior to the event, there was a Classic Car show on display in front of the historic property and parents were also given the opportunity to look around the school, see the classrooms, meet and chat and reinforce the membership of the school community.

Money was also raised through raffles, cake sales and also art and design technology enterprise stands which were distributed to the school charity and Shropshire Staffordshire and Cheshire Blood Bikes who were present on the day.

Dr Daryl Brown, headteacher at the school said: “The weather really was exceptional and we would like to thank everyone who attended on the day. It was very special to us to once again be able to hold such an important event at the school as it’s always a way to mark he exceptional achievements of our pupils, some of whom arrive here without any literacy skills.

“Our guests all enjoyed lunch in the walled garden, which was very well received so we would like to thank the chefs in the kitchen for their hard work - and of course the cookies.

“We are also sure that everyone appreciates this takes a lot of organisation from the office for the administration to the labour of shifting the furniture around from the maintenance and support staff. It was a very successful day and we want to thank them, and all who attended. We look forward to seeing you all again next year,” he added.

The school will be hosting an open day in the coming months, so do keep an eye on social channels for the events for potential future parents and prospective pupils.
